Our partnership with Hope for Home is all about creating pockets of calm in the middle of the everyday challenges that come with supporting a loved one living with dementia. Together, we are sending out up to 100 free embroidery kits to carers across the UK, offering not just materials, but a chance to pause, breathe, and create.

Alongside the kits, we have launched monthly Sip & Stitch sessions. These relaxed, welcoming gatherings are a space to ask questions, learn new skills, and most importantly, connect with others who truly understand the journey of caring.

Each stitcher begins with a simple but thoughtful prompt. We ask them to reflect on one of two questions inspired by nature, write their response onto hand-printed organic cotton, and then embroider over their words using threads generously donated to the RSN. Participants are encouraged to add embellishments and materials from their own collections, making every piece a personal and meaningful work of art.

Last Thursday marked our very first Sip & Stitch session. We invited those who had received their kits to join us for an hour of conversation and creativity. So far, 40 kits have been sent out, and six recipients joined us on Zoom, bringing with them openness, and a willingness to share.

The group was a wonderful mix of experience. Some were complete beginners, picking up a needle and thread for the first time, while others were seasoned stitchers rediscovering their love of embroidery. Everyone was united by curiosity and a desire to try something new.

During the session, we demonstrated how to get started with embroidery, answered questions, and talked through the creative process. More than anything, it became a space for storytelling. Participants shared their experiences of caring, their challenges, and the small moments of joy that keep them going.

The feedback was incredibly encouraging. Many spoke about how valuable it felt to have a creative outlet, a chance to focus on something soothing and rewarding, and a moment in the day that was just for them. For some, it was about learning new skills. For others, it was about reconnecting with something they once loved.

Hope for Home will be checking in with the initial kit recipients over the coming weeks to make sure they have everything they need and to gently encourage them to join future sessions. We are also exploring ways to record upcoming Sip & Stitch events so that those who cannot join live can still take part in their own time.

This is only the beginning. We are excited to welcome more stitchers into the sessions, to see their ideas come to life in thread and fabric, and to continue building a supportive, creative community. It is a small pause in a busy world, stitched together with care, understanding, and shared experience.
